Obstetrician/Gynaecologist – Full-time
The Women and Children’s Program is located at Sault Area Hospital with group and solo office practice available in the community.
Ob/Gyn Practice would include:
- OR availability including advanced minimally invasive Hysterectomy & new Hysterscopes
- Ambulatory care/colposcopy clinic availability
- Approximately 900 births annually, Level 2C 10 bed NICU
- One on one nursing care on labour & delivery
- 10 bed labour, delivery and postpartum unit, 4 labour & delivery fully-equipped suites with nitrous oxide, 24 hour epidural
- Caesarean Section operating room on labour & delivery
- Hysterosalpingogram and 3D transvaginal ultrasound
- Seven member team, average 5 on-call shifts per month
- MORE OB program on labour & delivery
Sault Area Hospital (SAH) has approximately 2700 dedicated staff, physicians and volunteers who work together to deliver outstanding care and services to a catchment population of approximately 115,000. With an approved complement of nearly 300 beds in spectacular new facilities, SAH provides primary, secondary and select tertiary services to residents in Sault Ste. Marie and the District of Algoma. In addition to providing core services in Emergency and Critical Care; Medicine; Surgery; Obstetrics, Maternity & Paediatrics; Mental Health and Addictions; Complex Continuing Care; and Rehabilitation, SAH is also home to the Algoma Regional Renal Program and the Algoma District Cancer Program. Full diagnostic support includes state-of-the-art 1.5 Tesla MRI and two CT Scanners. High risk obstetrics is supported by excellent ultrasound technology.
The Group Health Centre (GHC) is a progressive, multi-specialty, ambulatory care health organization and is one of Canada's first consumer-sponsored health care facilities built with private funds donated by local union members. As Ontario's largest and longest established alternatively funded healthcare organization, the GHC serves over 60,000 Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma District residents.
Candidates must possess or be eligible to obtain an independent license to practice medicine in Ontario with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, and must hold or be eligible for fellowship in Obstetrics and Gynecology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Subspecialty training or experience in minimally invasive surgery is a definite asset. An interest in or extra training in genitourinary surgery would also be an asset. There is flexibility with the starting date.
Affiliation with the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) provides the opportunity to teach residents and medical students.
This position is eligible the Ontario Ministry of Health incentive offered through the Northern Rural Recruitment & Retention Initiative and may qualify for the Northern Specialist Alternative Funding Plan.
