General Gastroenterologist
Sault Area Hospital invites applications for a Gastroenterologist to join a well-established, collegial group practicing General Gastroenterology.
Gastroenterology practice would consist of:
- Facilities for Endoscopy in hospital
- Additional ½ day per week in OR for therapeutics (if applicable)
- Provide consultant inpatient GI care
- Block coverage for hospital GI care with 2 other gastroenterologists
- Inpatient care is supervised by GIMU and FM service
- Hepatitis C program with Hepatitis C secretariat funded nursing and support staff
- Community facilities for initiation and maintenance of biologic therapy
- Internal Medicine call available but there is no obligation to participate
Sault Area Hospital (SAH) has dedicated staff, physicians and volunteers who work together to deliver outstanding care and services to a catchment population of approximately 115,000. With an approved complement of nearly 300 beds in spectacular new facilities, SAH provides primary, secondary and select tertiary services to residents in Sault Ste. Marie and the District of Algoma. In addition to providing core services in Emergency and Critical Care; Medicine; Surgery; Obstetrics, Maternity & Paediatrics; Mental Health and Addictions; Complex Continuing Care; and Rehabilitation, SAH is also home to the Algoma Regional Renal Program and the Algoma District Cancer Program.
The internal medicine program is represented by specialists in cardiology, critical care, endocrinology, gastroenterology, general internal medicine, geriatrics, hematology, infectious diseases, medical oncology, nephrology, respirology and rheumatology. Additionally, there is diagnostic imaging support which includes state-of-the-art 1.5 Tesla MRI and two CT Scanners with access to interventional DI. The hospital supports a full-time pulmonary function lab, endoscopy unit, non-interventional cath lab, nuclear medicine and ultrasonography.
Affiliation with the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) provides the opportunity to teach residents and medical students.
Candidates must possess or be able to obtain an unrestricted license to practice medicine in Ontario with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, and must hold or be eligible for fellowship in Gastroenterology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
Training and/or experience in ERCP and endoscopic ultrasound would be an asset but not essential. Other interests such as IBD or hepatology would be welcome.
This position will be remunerated with a combination of Ontario Health Insurance Plan billings and Hospital On-Call compensation. This position is eligible for the Ontario Ministry of Health incentive of $80,000 offered through the Northern Rural Recruitment & Retention Initiative and the Northern Specialist Alternative Funding Plan. There is also a community relocation allowance of up to $5,000.
