Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario is located on the St. Mary’s River between Lake Huron and Lake Superior on the U.S. /Canadian border. The Sault has all the amenities of a regional urban centre, with both the Canadian wilderness and extraordinary vacation areas in Michigan just minutes away.  There is a strong cultural and arts basis in the community, and both winter and summer outdoor activities abound. The Sault has an excellent school system and offers a multitude of sports and artistic opportunities for children and adults alike.  Sault Ste. Marie is served by three Canadian airlines as well as one major U.S. airline.

Sault Area Hospital (SAH) is a new state-of-the-art facility recently opened in 2011. With 291 inpatient beds and 14 Intensivist led ICU beds, SAH provides emergency, primary, secondary, selected tertiary and long-term care healthcare services to the city and the District of Algoma with a catchment population of approximately 115,000.

The Emergency medicine staff is composed of an expanding group of young, dedicated, and skilled emergency physicians.  The department has all the essential tools including a glidescope, bedside ultrasound, as well as adult and pediatric intraosseous drills.  Diagnostic imaging includes a new MRI, Ultrasound, and two CT scanners available 24hrs.   

The ED is supported by Internal Medicine service, Hospitalist, Pediatrics, as well as a closed ICU with an in-house Intensivist on call 24 hours.  There is also a full complement of surgical specialties with the exception of cardiac & neurosurgery.

We are looking to recruit FRCP, CCFP(EM)s or physicians with equivalent experience.  Novice physicians are scheduled to work day time shifts with cross coverage while they are learning the ropes.  More experienced physicians work a full complement of shifts covering the Acute and Fast Track.  

Affiliation with the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) provides the opportunity to teach residents and medical students.
