Job Description

Position Description:

The Moncton Hospital (Horizon Health Network) is seeking a full-time physician to join our Palliative Medicine department. We are welcoming applications from qualified individuals who are interested in joining our team, which currently consists of 4 palliative medicine physicians. Duties include the following:

  • Participation in the Palliative Medicine Consult Service (providing guidance to physicians and direct medical care to patients) for Moncton Area, Horizon Health Network, consisting of the palliative care unit, in-hospital consults, and outpatient consults including home visits and outpatient clinics.
  • Participation in after-hours on-call coverage for the palliative medicine consultation service.
  • Active participation in regular multidisciplinary rounds both in hospital and in the community, with the goal of anticipatory patient management, symptom control and timely discharge planning, if appropriate.
  • Participation in delivering continuing education to the multidisciplinary team and other primary care providers.

Job Duties:

·   Provide inpatient care

·   Regular home visits as required

·   Scheduling vacation/absences will be determined with the group which will have responsibility to maintain ongoing coverage

·   Teaching responsibilities for residents and medical students

·   Teaching responsibilities for nursing and peers as appropriate

·   Participate in departmental meetings, Medical Quality Improvement Committee, and other appropriate family practice/palliative care and hospital committees

·   Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to address staff and patient education needs

·   Practice in a collaborative fashion as a member of an interdisciplinary team and consult with members of other health professions as appropriate

·   Participate in the use of departmental and corporate evidence-based rules of practice to ensure that expected standards of care are achieved

· Adhere to call responsibilities as defined by the department. On-call response time is 10 minutes to answer your pager and be accessible to attend at the bedside within 30 minutes, unless alternative arrangements are defined by the department Rules.

·   Participate in the medical practice that is compatible with the Health Authority’s mission, values and strategic directions

·   Within the confines of this scope of practice and position description, provide other duties that may arise by circumstance and may be required by the Head of the Department of Family Medicine (Palliative Care Division), the Chief of Staff and/or Medical Director.

Hours of Work:

Minimum 37.5 hours weekly.

Remuneration:

Salaried

Remuneration is based on a salaried model (according to the Medical Pay Plan from Medicare, New Brunswick) based on qualifications and experience. On call remuneration is based on a sessional fee rate plus fee-for-service billing.

Requirements:

Member of the Division of Palliative Care (Department of Family Medicine) must have one or more of the following qualifications:

  • Canadian College of Family Physicians
  • American Board of Family Medicine
  • Le Collège des médecins du Québec (Médecine familiale)

A Certificate in Added Competence in Palliative Care from the College of Family Physicians of Canada or Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada is required for this position.

$50,000.00 accompanied by a 2 year return of service.
