Position Description:

The Chaleur Regional Hospital in Bathurst, New Brunswick is recruiting a full-time Pediatrician. The successful applicant will perform duties with considerable clinical independence in the diagnosis, care and treatment of medical disorder within the scope of his or her specialty. He or she will practice with independent judgment, deliver services to in and outpatients, and act as consultant to other physicians. He or she will be responsible for pediatric care to the population in Zone 6. The candidate is expected to participate in the teaching of students and residents in medicine.

Job Duties:

This is professional medical work performed by certified specialists (those with a specialty certification as recognized by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of NB). Duties are performed with considerable clinical independence in the diagnosis, care and treatment of medical disorders within the scope of the specialty in which they are practicing. Work is performed with independent judgment but findings and observations may be subject to supervision and assessment by the physician’s Clinical (Program) Department Head / Chief of Service / Program Director in which the physicians works. Review of work may also be supervised by the local and regional Chiefs of Staff and the zone’s Medical Director for the Regional Health Authority (RHA). The physician works within the accordance of the RHA Bylaws.

Hours of Work:

  • According to the agreement determined by the Service/Department Head
  • After-hours and weekend calls are shared among all members of the Department.

Remuneration:

Fee for Service

Standard remuneration is fee-for-service which is a direct compensation between the physician and Medicare of New Brunswick. No source deductions can be provided.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate from an approved school of medicine supplemented by post-graduate study in the area of specialization (Pediatric)
  • The candidate must have his certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification (FRCPC)
  • The candidate must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick. https://www.cpsnb.org/ 
  • Knowledge of French and English, spoken and written, are necessary.

About the Facility:

The Chaleur Regional Hospital provides a wide range of primary services, secondary specialized and regional including most of all the major surgical services, with the With 215 beds, 90 family physicians and 62 specialists, it serves a population of 75,000 The Chaleur Regional Hospital is an authorize partner of the francophone program of Family Medicine of the University of Sherbrooke and of the program of Nursing at the University of Moncton and the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton.

The Chaleur Regional Hospital is under major renovations. The five-storey building with a total area of approximately 11,507 square meters will add new patient and birth rooms, as well as dialysis, outpatient, oncology, pediatric and administrative services. A new intensive care unit officially opened in January 2014. The unit, which covers 1,431 square metres (15,900 square feet), can accommodate 10 intensive care patients as well as five step-down patients. It represents an investment of $13.4 million. The facilities are ultramodern, with more spacious patient rooms and dedicated observation stations. “This unit is an important addition to the delivery of critical care for patients in the region.
