Alberta Health Services (AHS), Edmonton Corridor invites applications for the role of Associate Corridor Medical Lead (ACML), Acute Care Coverage, External Relationships, Contracts, and Clinical Departments: Medicine, Cardiac Sciences, and Family Medicine.

 

This 0.60 FTE position, governed by the Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules, reports to the Edmonton Corridor Medical Lead. This role is an exciting senior medical leadership role within the Hospital-Based Leadership Model. The ACML provides executive leadership for the Departments of Cardiac Sciences, Family Medicine and Medicine portfolios. 

 

This role provides leadership for the Acute Care Coverage (ACC) portfolio within the Edmonton Corridor Medical Affairs team and offers strategic and consultative support to clinical services. This role partners with stakeholders to design and implement innovative, sustainable care delivery models, optimizing the use of alternative healthcare providers, including Resident Physician Extenders, Hospitalists, Clinical Associates, Associate Physicians, Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners.

 

The ACML oversees the recruitment, retention, performance management and clinical operations for alternate providers and physician groups, ensuring alignment with Medical Staff Bylaws. This position supports program development and evaluation and collaborates closely with Medical Affairs to maintain safe, effective, and innovative care models.

 

The ACML establishes and maintains key partnerships with internal and external stakeholder groups. Working collaboratively with AHS and Acute Care Alberta, the ACML monitors site performance against key performance indicators, specifically focusing on clinical care metrics to ensure optimal service delivery and patient outcomes. The ACML will forge strong relationships with key partners, such the Government of Alberta, the University of Alberta, other health service delivery organizations, and provincial and corporate services. 

 

The ACML contributes to the administration and development of Alternate Relationship Plans (ARPs), the Academic Medicine Health Service Program (AMHSP) and similar contracts. 

 

The ACML facilitates corridor-wide quality improvement initiatives and ensures consistent application of clinical standards across sites. The ACML will support and help coordinate corridor-level patient flow, including inter-site admissions and emergency management coordination.  

 

The position has an expected start date of approximately October 1, 2026, with a 3-year term.

 

Qualifications:

Certification by the College of Family Physicians of Canada, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or an equivalent professional body is required.  They must be eligible to work in Canada and be eligible for or have current licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta and appointment to the AHS Medical Staff. Candidates should have evidence of formal administrative education and training.

 

Progressive senior leadership experience in a healthcare environment, including a minimum of three (3) years’ experience (5 years preferred) in a senior management role in clinical services or healthcare operations. Medical leadership experience in a major urban hospital setting is also required. Successful record of achievement as a leader, including extensive experience in improvement and innovation in service delivery in large and diverse range of health functions.  Must be a member of the AHS Medical Staff or eligible to become a member of the AHS Medical Staff.

 

Additional Required Qualifications: Proven success as an adaptive strategic leader who can be both resolute and flexible and be able to react strategically to environmental shifts. Leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision-making responsibilities, coaching and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others.  Effective interpersonal communicator supported by strong emotional intelligence, organizational skills, client-focused orientation, and commitment to providing long term quality services. Ability to assist in the progression of medical leadership including development conversations, goal setting, and mentorship/coaching responsibilities.  Demonstrated ability to manage change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues. Ability to manage diverse human, financial and physical resources within a complex environment. Certification as a Canadian Certified Physician Executive (CCPE) designation or similar is an asset.  

 

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated abilities in communication, conflict resolution, negotiation, and a passion for quality and patient safety working as a part of a leadership team. They will be an inclusive and visionary leader with significant experience in medical leadership and is considered a strong clinician by peers.
