This position is a COMMUNITY position and is NOT part of Alberta Health Services.

Job Description:
We are located in a very busy location in the North-East area of Calgary next to the Peter Lougheed Hospital. We are located near the C-train, diagnostic labs, Mayfair imaging, Sunridge Mall and CDC. Highly populated area with many communities around us.
Clinical Care
Diagnose heart conditions (e.g., heart attacks, arrhythmias, heart failure)
Perform physical exams and interpret tests (ECG, echocardiograms, stress tests)
Prescribe medications and treatment plans
Monitor patient progress and adjust care
Procedures & Referrals
Perform or assist with specialized procedures (e.g., angiography, catheterization)
Refer patients for surgery when needed
Collaborate with surgeons and other specialists
Patient Management
Educate patients on heart health and prevention
Provide long-term management of chronic conditions
Coordinate patient care and follow-ups
Professional & Research Roles
Act as consultants to other physicians
Participate in research or teaching (especially in academic hospitals)
Develop clinical protocols and quality standards
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree (pre-med or related field)
Doctor of Medicine (MD) from an accredited medical school
Residency in Internal Medicine (typically 4-5 years)
Fellowship in Cardiology (2-3 years minimum)
Additional subspecialty training (optional but common), such as:
Interventional cardiology
Electrophysiology
Heart failure or imaging
Certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC)
Valid license from the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA)
Pass required national exams (e.g., Medical Council of Canada exams)
CPSA Eligibility Letter for PRA assessments
Advanced knowledge of cardiovascular diseases and treatments
Ability to interpret diagnostic tests:
ECG (electrocardiogram)
Echocardiography
Stress testing
Procedural skills (depending on specialty):
Cardiac catheterization
Angiography
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication with patients and healthcare teams
Attention to detail
Decision-making under pressure
Empathy and patient-centered care
Completion of supervised clinical training (residency + fellowship)
Hands-on experience in hospital or clinical cardiology settings
Research experience (often preferred, especially in academic roles)
Ability to work long and irregular hours (including on-call shifts)
Continuous professional development (CPD) to maintain licensure
Knowledge of Canadian healthcare standards and ethics
