Job Description
The Specialized Geriatric Services Program (SGS – Clinical Alternative Relationship Plan), in partnership with Covenant Health and Alberta Health Services, invites applications for a Geriatrician (Internal Medicine) or Care of the Elderly Physician (Family Medicine) to join the Division of Geriatric Medicine / Care of the Elderly in Edmonton, Alberta. This position will be primarily based at the Misericordia Community Hospital.
The successful candidate will be expected to apply for a Clinical Faculty Appointment with either the Department of Family Medicine or the Department of Medicine at the University of Alberta, which will be considered through a separate appointment process within the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.
This role comprises inpatient and outpatient consultation services, Emergency Department consultation support, and inpatient coverage on the Geriatric Assessment Unit at Misericordia Community Hospital. The successful applicant will also participate in on-call coverage for the Misericordia Geriatrics service, contribute to bedside clinical teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate trainees and, where required, departmental committees and program initiatives supporting the ongoing development of geriatric care.
· MD or equivalent.
· Licensed or eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
· Training in Care of the Elderly (Family Medicine) /Geriatric Medicine (Internal Medicine).
· Certification in General Internal Medicine/Geriatric Medicine with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) or certification in Family Medicine/Care of the Elderly from the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP).
· Expertise and commitment to quality care and patient safety.
· Demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) in the healthcare environment.
· Understanding of Just Culture and its role in healthcare.
· MD or equivalent.
