The Department of Surgery is seeking Orthopedic Surgery locums.

The Timmins and District Hospital is a 229-bed district hospital serving a local population of 41,000 and a catchment area of 110,000. Timmins is located in Northeastern Ontario, and is a fully accredited referral and teaching hospital that offers a full range of Medical, Surgical, Critical Care, Maternal/Child, Complex Continuing Care, and Mental Health Services.

Details of TADH's Surgical Department:

Our four Orthopedic Surgeons (3 full-time, 1 part-time) are supported by a team of specialists, including General Surgery, Urology, Ophthalmology, ENT, OB/GYN, Anesthesia, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Radiology, Psychiatry, Addictions Medicine, and Nephrology. Our surgeons also have quick access to TADH's state-of-the-art DI Dept., including CT and MRI.

Surgeons at TADH perform 1,500 inpatient and over 2,500 day surgeries annually.

Responsibilities:

·        Locums would be responsible for covering 24-hour on-call. Call starts at 07:00 to the following 07:00.

·        Schedules are flexible and can be coordinated with the applicant.

Remuneration:

·        Ortho locums receive a guaranteed combined compensation of $2,430.54/day.

This includes TADH topping up fee-for-service billings to $1,668.78/day if locums fall below that threshold, in addition to HOCC ($398.19/day) and the Northern Specialist Locum Program honorarium ($363.57/day).

Eligible Expenses:

Travel and accommodation are also supported through the Northern Specialist Locum Program and cover:

·        Traveling expenses (100%)

·        Car rental ($50/day)

·        Accommodations ($150/night)

·        Travel honorarium (based on time traveled)

o  3-4 hours: $556.26

o  6-8 hours: $1,112.52

o  9-12 hours: $1,669.78 

Accommodations:

·        The Timmins and District Hospital has a limited number of apartments available, 2 minutes from the hospital. Alternatively, there are numerous hotels 5-10 minutes from the hospital.

Travel:

·        Multiple daily direct flights from Toronto through Air Canada or Porter Airlines.

Position Requirements:

Candidates must:

·        have Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification in Orthopedic Surgery.

·        be licensed to practice as an Orthopedic Surgeon in the Province of Ontario.

·        have Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) coverage.

·        have an independent practice license with the CPSO.

·        have an active OHIP billing number.

·        possess excellent clinical and surgical skills.

·        have a commitment to patient safety and high standards of care.
