Position Description:
The ophthalmologist provides comprehensive eye care to a rural ophthalmology clinic, out-patient ophthalmic care and participates in the on-call rota of the Division of Ophthalmology at the Fredericton Regional Hospital.
The physician reports to Chief of the Department of Surgery or designated Ophthalmology section head for all clinical, quality of care and patient care related issues and to the Medical Director for contractual and administrative management issues.
The Physician will be based in Fredericton and will be required to travel to Upper River Valley Hospital two (2) days per week to provide support.

Job Duties:
- Provide an outpatient service for the assessment and management of both new and follow-up patients.
- Provide consultations to hospital-based patients as requested by medical or hospital staff.
- Attend regularly scheduled departmental meetings.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to address staff and patient education needs.
- Practice in a collaborative fashion as a member of an interdisciplinary team and consult with members of other health professions as appropriate.
- Participate in the use of departmental and corporate evidence-based rules of practice to ensure that expected standards of care are achieved.
- Participate in the on-call rota of the Department of Surgery (Ophthalmology).
- Participate in medical practice that is compatible with the Health Authority’s mission, values and strategic directions.
- Within the confines of this scope of practice and position description, provide other duties that may arise by circumstance and may be assigned by the Chief of the Department of Surgery, the Chief of Staff, Medical Director and/or Vice President of Medical Affairs.
Remuneration:
Fee for Service
Standard remuneration is Fee-for-Service which is a direct compensation between the physician and Medicare of New Brunswick. On call remuneration is provided. No source deductions can be provided.
Qualifications:
Must hold a valid license to practice medicine in the Province of New Brunswick.
Must be a member in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick.
Must have current malpractice insurance from the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) appropriate to the category of practice.
Excellent communication, interpersonal and team-building skills.
Good attendance and work record.
Physically able to perform assigned duties.

Incentives:
$50,000.00 accompanied by a 2 year return of service.
Relocation reimbursement available.
