As part of their integration strategy, the hospitals have a common medical staff, joint medical and administrative leadership positions, and an integrated planning system. Both hospitals have well-earned reputations for providing excellent care and for friendly and collegial work environments.

The radiologists work in collaboration across the sites and we currently have expertise in Neuroradiology, Body imaging, Women’s imaging, Cardiac/thoracic imaging and Vascular and interventional radiology to advance patient care. As a member of the professional staff, understanding the rationale and need to join quality improvement initiatives, including peer review, and striving to improve the care and services to the community is essential. Radiologists are expected to take part in multidisciplinary cancer rounds. There are three CT scanners and three MRI scanners across the hospitals. A state of the art Philips 1.5 T Ambition MRI has been installed at Midtown site (formally GRH) and a Philips 1.5 T Ambition MRI was installed at the Queen’s Boulevard site (formally SMGH) in spring 2024.

The Midtown site is one of Ontario's largest community hospitals, with 665 beds, serving more than 750,000 residents in Waterloo Region and Wellington County. We have 15 core clinical programs and services, including the Regional Cancer Centre, Regional Renal Program, Critical Care with a closed level three ICU, Waterloo Wellington Breast Centre, Pediatric services, Regional Stroke services and a high-volume, high-acuity Emergency Department. In addition, there has been progressive expansion of our role as a teaching site for McMaster medical students and residents. WRHN infuses five corporate values into everything we do: professionalism, teamwork, positive attitude, respect and communication.

The Queen’s Boulevard site is one of Ontario’s top performing hospitals, nationally recognized for providing innovative, best practice adult acute care, programs include Cardiology and Cardiothoracic surgery, Emergency care, Diagnostic imaging, Medicine, Respiratory and Thoracic care amongst others. Located in the heart of Kitchener, Ontario, the Queen’s Boulevard site serves as the Regional Cardiac Centre, caring for a population base of more than 750,000 people that extends from Waterloo Region to Wellington County, Grey Bruce and beyond.
