EFFECTIVE DATE: Anticipated start date between July 2026 and January 2027
STATUS: Full-Time Academic Surgeon
REPORTS TO: Department Head, Department of Surgery
POSITION SUMMARY
The Department of Surgery at The Ottawa Hospital/The University of Ottawa is inviting applications for a permanent position in the Division of General Surgery. We are seeking a full-time, Academic, Surgical Oncologist, at the rank of Assistant Professor.
The successful candidate will have completed a residency program in general surgery as well as fellowship training in Surgical Oncology (Royal College Fellowship is preferred) with a focus on locally advanced Colorectal Surgery, Gastric Surgery, Robotic experience or knowledge preferred.
In addition, knowledge and management of peritoneal malignancies, would be preferable. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in additional clinical roles including on-call and ACS responsibilities. A focused academic / research plan to add value to the Division of General Surgery is required.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in a shared model of care for elective practice. The successful candidate will be expected to engage in the education of residents and fellows, research, and quality improvement initiatives.
REQUIREMENTS
· The candidate must be eligible for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor (or greater)
· The candidate must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada as well as licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario
· The candidate must have coverage with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA)
· The successful candidate must have demonstrated outstanding knowledge, skills and ethical standards as evidenced by strong letters of reference
· A Candidate with a Masters or PhD is strongly preferred
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
The successful candidate will be enrolled in the Division of General Surgery Practice Plan and will be a member of The Ottawa Hospital Academic Medical Organization. The income for this position is derived from a variety of sources including but not limited to clinical billings (fee-for-service) and on-call stipends. Health and welfare benefits, including extended health, dental and disability insurance as well as life insurance, are offered for purchase to full-time surgeons.
REMUNERATION DETAILS
Salary range: $350,000 - $500,000 annually. Primary source of income is fee-for-service.

The Ottawa Hospital is a 1150 bed tertiary-care hospital serving Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec at four inpatient sites (Civic, General, Heart Institute and the Rehabilitation Centre) and one ambulatory centre (Riverside). There are approximately 50,000 inpatient admission, 160,000 emergency visits and over one million outpatient visits annually. The Ottawa Hospital is the Level 1 trauma referral centre for Eastern Ontario. With a catchment of nearly 2 million people, our trauma program facilitates inpatient care for close to 1,000 patients annually.
