Job Description
The Service of Anaesthesia at North Bay Regional Health Centre (NBRHC) is seeking locum Anaesthesiologists to join its collaborative team and support daytime and on-call coverage. This is an excellent opportunity to practice in a modern regional referral centre while enjoying the lifestyle benefits of Northern Ontario. Service Details:
NBRHC Anaesthesiologists provide services to General Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Otolaryngology, Urology, Ophthalmology, Dental Surgery, Pain Management, ECT, the Preadmission Clinic and the CCU. NBRHC has an 8 theatre OR, a 13 bed PACU, endoscopy suite, ophthalmology suite, labour & delivery suite and a 16 bed CCU.
Locum anaesthetists will be provided a daily room assignment (Monday-Friday) and will participate in the on-call roster as negotiated. On-Call services also includes consultative support for vented patients in the critical care unit. Locums are available in one week increments. Locum dates are flexible.
Qualifications:
Qualified applicants will have licensure to practice independently in Ontario, and either a standing anaesthesiology fellowship from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or Family Medicine CCFP designation with a certificate of added competence in anaesthesia.
Proficiency in community pediatric anaesthesia is required.

NBRHC is a modern, state-of-the-art healthcare facility that opened in 2011 and serves as a key regional referral center for Northeastern Ontario. With 480 beds, NBRHC provides a full spectrum of acute care and specialized services to a catchment population extending across North Bay and surrounding communities including Mattawa, West Nipissing and Temiskaming Shores.
The hospital offers comprehensive acute care services, including a 24/7 emergency department, 16 bed Critical Care Unit, inpatient adult and pediatric medicine, dialysis, endoscopy and bronchoscopy, obstetrics, pathology and surgical subspecialties. NBRHC also provides advances diagnostic imaging services, including x-ray, ultrasound, CT, MRI, bone densitometry and nuclear medicine, supporting timely and high-quality diagnostic care for the region.
NBRHC is unique in Ontario for its fully integrated model of care, combining acute care services and specialized mental health services on one campus. The organization fulfills three important roles:
- Providing acute care services to North Bay and surrounding communities
- Serving as the district referral center providing specialist services for smaller communities across the region
- Delivering specialized mental health services for the entire Northeast region of Ontario.
This integrated system allows NBRHC to provide coordinated, patient-centered care while supporting strong collaboration among medical specialists and healthcare teams.

Remuneration:
Remuneration will be a combination of:
- NSLP daily clinic / on-call sessionals or OHIP billings (whichever is higher);
- NSLP daily honourarium of $363;
- NBRHC HOCC stipend of $470-$600 per on-call day;
- NSLP travel sessionals and travel honourariums for each day of travel
- NSLP locum travel and accommodation funding
- Paid hospital orientation & free hospital parking provided.
