Job Description
Covenant Health, in partnership with Recovery Alberta and the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta, invites applications for a locum Adult Psychiatrist based at the Grey Nuns Community Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta.
We are seeking locum coverage for the period July through December 2026. While preference will be given to applicants who are available for the full six-month term, physicians able to provide coverage for shorter portions of this period are also encouraged to apply.
The successful applicant will join a collegial and collaborative psychiatry team providing acute psychiatric consultation services to the Grey Nuns Community Hospital.
Clinical responsibilities include:
· Assessment and management of psychiatric consultations in the Emergency Department.
· Ongoing care of psychiatric patients awaiting admission while boarding in the Emergency Department.
· Consultation-Liaison psychiatry services for medical and surgical inpatients throughout the hospital.
· Telephone consultation and support for community physicians and other healthcare providers.
· Close collaboration with emergency physicians, hospital-based specialists, inpatient psychiatrists, nursing staff, and allied health professionals to provide timely, patient-centred care.
The successful applicant will participate in the weekday daytime consultation service. There is no expectation for outpatient clinical responsibilities as part of this position.
The successful applicant will be encouraged to participate in the teaching of medical students and psychiatry residents and may apply for a Clinical Faculty Appointment with the Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, University of Alberta.
We are seeking a psychiatrist who enjoys working in a fast-paced acute care environment and who demonstrates excellent clinical judgement, strong communication skills, and a collaborative approach to patient care.
Required
· MD or equivalent.
· Licensed or eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
· Certification in Psychiatry from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC).
· Expertise and commitment to quality patient care and patient safety.
· Demonstrated ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team.
· Understanding of Just Culture and its role in healthcare.
Required
