The internal medicine program is represented by specialists in respirology, rheumatology, gastroenterology, cardiology, endocrinology, oncology, nephrology, hematology and a closed ICU. There is full support by all surgical specialties with the exception of cardiac and neurosurgery. Additionally, there is diagnostic imaging support which includes state-of-the-art 1.5 Tesla MRI and two CT Scanners with access to interventional DI. The hospital supports a full-time pulmonary function lab, endoscopy unit, non-interventional cath lab, nuclear medicine and ultrasonography. Sault Area Hospital has a medicine program comprised of the following: . Hospitalist program for orphan patients . Family medicine program . General internal medicine unit (20 beds) . Mixed internal medicine subspecialty program.

Affiliation with the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) provides the opportunity to teach residents and medical students.
