Job Description
Dryden Regional Health Centre (DRHC) is looking for a full-time General Surgeon to join our rural healthcare team. New grads are welcome!
Compensation:
Dryden is an eligible community under the Northern and Rural Recruitment and Retention Initiative - physicians that establish a full-time practice in Dryden are eligible for $136,308 over four years! DRHC offers an additional return-of-service signing bonus and up to $15,000 in reimbursement for moving expenses. Practicing in Dryden also makes you eligible for Canada Student Loan forgiveness - up to $60,000 over 5 years.
Local General Surgeons are part of a competitive regional Alternate Payment Plan (APP) with Sioux Lookout, Kenora, and Fort Frances and receive Hospital On-Call Coverage (HOCC) funding.
Teaching:
Affiliated with the Northern Ontario School of Medicine University (NOSM U) and University of Toronto's Teaching Practice (TP) Rural Family Medicine program, DRHC is a busy teaching facility for medical learners and residents from across the country. Opportunities for both clinical and academic teaching and faculty appointment.
About DRHC:
DRHC is on beautiful Treaty #3 territory, providing local healthcare to the community of Dryden, several surrounding rural municipalities, and the First Nation communities of Migisi Sahgaigan (Eagle Lake), Wabigoon Lake Ojibway, and Wabauskang.
We are a 42-bed hospital, including a 3-bed CCU, 24/7 Emergency Department, and 2 modern OR theatres with 1 fully integrated MIS suite. We have a regionally-integrated EMR (Meditech, current development towards adopting Meditech Expanse), on-site diagnostic imaging (CT, ultrasound, x-ray), laboratory services, and nearby pathology (Kenora). We are closely located to two tertiary referral centres (Thunder Bay and Winnipeg) via ORNG Air Ambulance service.
DRHC is conveniently located on the same grounds as the Dingwall Medical Clinic and Dryden Area Family Health Team, making collaborative care a breeze. DRHC also hosts a Specialty Clinic that brings in visiting specialists year-round, supporting quality healthcare closer to home. This includes Orthopedic Surgery (knee, hip, spine), ENT, Plastics, Obstetrics, Gynecology, Rheumatology, Urology, Pediatrics, and Psychiatry.
Surgical Services:
Common procedures for our General Surgeons include GI, bowel re-section, hernias, skin, and soft tissue surgery. GI endoscopy is an essential service and advanced skills in minimal access surgery are welcome.
One local Family Physician with Extended Class Certification provides C-Section coverage. Two local GP/Anesthetists provide excellent support for the Surgical Services programs at the DRHC. A reliable pool of General Surgeon locums provide relief and vacation coverage.
General Surgeons in Dryden are part of a Regional Surgical Network, providing opportunity for collaboration and support from nearby colleagues in the region.
The Chief of Surgical Services in Dryden is Dr. Izabela Apriasz. All practice specific questions can be directed to Dr. Apriasz at ***@gmail.com (🔒 Premium).
