ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
The Cancer Care Program of NL Health Services invites applications for the role of Medical Director, Cervical Screening Initiatives Program (Interim). This is a 0.4 FTE (bi-weekly) position, suitable for a physician seeking to combine this leadership role with an existing clinical practice.
The Cervical Screening Initiatives Program aims to improve participation in cervical screening across Newfoundland and Labrador through the development of a comprehensively organized program, in partnership with NL Health Services, community organizations, health care professionals, and participants. Cervical screening is offered by health care providers across the province, including family physicians, general practitioners, nurse practitioners, and registered nurses.
The Medical Director will collaborate with program staff and the Provincial Cancer Screening Advisory Committee to set strategic directions, implement policies and procedures, ensure evaluation protocols are in place, and promote cervical screening among the health care community. The Medical Director is responsible for ensuring clinical efficiencies are in place for the program and that it adheres to applicable guidelines and standards. The role provides clinical leadership, consultation, and expertise to health care providers regarding cervical screening within the context of the provincial integrated cancer screening strategy.
This role requires an extensive knowledge base in cervical cancer, cancer control strategies, and cervical screening program development at a national level, along with the ability to synthesize evolving research, trends, and statistics into the design, development, and evaluation of the program. As with any leadership position, this role is subject to review and may be realigned with changing needs within the population and program in consultation with partners.
