The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, invites applications for a position of a General Surgeon to be based at the University of Alberta Hospital.

The General Surgery program presently consists of 62 General Surgeons and provides service to the City of Edmonton and surrounding communities. We provide specialized care in all aspects of General Surgery including hepatobiliary surgery and transplantation, general surgical oncology, head and neck surgery, endocrine surgery, trauma, colorectal surgery, vascular surgery, upper GI surgery, bariatric surgery, breast surgery, and minimally invasive surgery.

We are active members of the Department of Surgery at the University of Alberta, routinely participating in departmental research and other administrative activities.  Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry is one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions and has been internationally recognized among the world’s top 50 medical schools.

The successful candidate will be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada with an MD, FRCPC or FRCSC, having completed training in General Surgery and Trauma obtained the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Fellowship in General Surgery or equivalent. The candidate must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).

We are particularly interested in those with superior interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to function well within interdisciplinary teams.  We would also be looking for the successful candidate to have demonstrated an interest in education and simulation. The successful candidate will take part in the undergraduate and post-graduate surgery curricula at the University of Alberta. Therefore, the successful candidate will be expected to apply for a Clinical Academic appointment in the Department of Surgery at the University of Alberta. This will be considered under a separate process through the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.

The successful candidate will be a clinical academic colleague within the academic Department of Surgery, Division of General Surgery.
