Position Description:

Full time maternal fetal medicine specialist in the Department of OBS/GYN at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Primary responsibilities will be to share the clinical responsibilities to serve the population of New Brunswick as outlined in the offer of employment.

Job Duties:

·        Provide ambulatory care in a clinic setting.

·        Provide inpatient care.

·        Provide consultations to hospital-based patients as requested by attending staff.

·        Practice in a collaborative fashion as a member of an interdisciplinary team and consult with members of other health professions as appropriate.

·        Report all absences– planned and unforeseen – in writing to the Department Head of OBS/GYN.

·        Negotiate planned service gaps in advance to ensure coverage of services can be arranged when the Physician is absent.

·        Participate in the use of departmental and corporate evidence-based rules of practice to ensure that expected standards of care are achieved.

·        Participate in medical practice that is compatible with the Horizon Health Network’s mission, values and strategic directions.

·        Within the confines of this scope of practice and position description, provide other duties that may arise by circumstance and may be assigned by the Department Head of OBS/GYN, the Local Chief of Staff, Medical Director-Saint John and/or the Vice President of Medical Affairs.

·        Participate in the teaching of other members of health professions in subjects related to the practice of Maternal Fetal Medicine.

·        Maintain all patient records in the office and the hospital current and in accordance with the Horizon Health Network bylaws, medical staff rules, regulations, policies and procedures and additionally as required by the Department Head of OBS/GYN.

Note: These responsibilities are the basic and prime duties associated with this position; other related and allied duties may be assigned from time to time as may be necessary to the operation of Horizon Health Network.

Hours of Work:

Hours of work are normally provided during the week Monday to Friday.

After-hours and weekend call coverage in coordination with members of the Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine.

Remuneration:

Alternative Funding Plan (AFP)

Remuneration for this position is based on a competitive New Brunswick Medicare Alternate Funding Plan. Medical education remuneration is based on set Dalhousie University rates. 

Qualifications:

·        Certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Maternal Fetal Medicine.

·        Must hold a valid license to practice medicine in the Province of New Brunswick.

·        Must be a member in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick and the New Brunswick Medical Society.

·        Must have current malpractice insurance from the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) appropriate to the category of practice.

·        Excellent communication, interpersonal and team-building skills.

·        Good attendance and work record.

·        Physically able to perform assigned duties.

$50,000.00 accompanied by a 2-year return of service.

Other Requirements:

·        Attend appropriate annual CME/CPD requirements for specialty.

·        Comply with the policies and procedures of the Department of OBS/GYN.

·        Comply with the provisions of the Hospital Act, the Regional Health Authorities Act, Community Health Centre Regulation, the Medical Services Payment Act, and their regulations.

·        Comply with the Health Authority bylaws, rules and regulations, and policies and procedures.

·        Follow the Code of Ethics of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick and the Canadian Medical Association.

About the Facility:

Horizon’s Saint John Regional Hospital is the largest tertiary care hospital in New Brunswick and is the primary health care referral centre for this area and to all New Brunswickers for major trauma and cardiac care.

The New Brunswick Trauma Program, New Brunswick Heart Centre, and the New Brunswick Stem Cell Transplant Centre are located within the hospital, as are Radiation Oncology and Nephrology services. This site offers autologous stem cell therapy and a stem cell processing laboratory.

The Saint John Regional Hospital also serves as the centre for Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick’s distributed medical education program. The hospital services a catchment population of 170,000 people.
