Position Description:

The Moncton Hospital is looking for an Anatomical Pathologist to start in January 2025. The successful candidate will join a congenial group of laboratory physicians consisting of eight anatomical pathologists, a medical biochemist, one hematopathologist and two microbiologists. We cover a full spectrum of anatomic pathology, cytology and hematopathology cases in addition to having a very active service in chemistry and microbiology and have a new state of the art lab facility.

Job Duties:

·        Ensure adequate coverage during times of absence, as defined by the Department Rules

·        Honour consultation requests in a timely manner

·        Provide telephone consultation to colleagues

·        Teaching responsibilities for residents and medical students

·        Teaching responsibilities for nursing and peers as appropriate

·        Participate in departmental and other appropriate Laboratory Medicine and hospital committees

·        Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to address staff and patient education needs

·        Practice in a collaborative fashion as a member of an interdisciplinary team and consult with members of other health professions as appropriate

·        Participate in the use of departmental and corporate evidence-based rules of practice to ensure that expected standards of care are achieved

• Adhere to call responsibilities, including Laboratory Medicine call rota, as defined by the department. On-call response time is 10 minutes to answer your pager and be accessible to attend at the bedside within 30 minutes, unless alternative arrangements are defined by the department Rules.

·        Participate in the medical practice that is compatible with the Health Authority’s mission, values and strategic directions

·        Within the confines of this scope of practice and position description, provide other duties that may arise by circumstance and may be required by the Head of the Department of Laboratory Medicine, the Chief of Staff and/or Medical Director.

Remuneration:

Alternative Funding Plan (AFP)

You will be part of New Brunswick Medicare’s Alternate Funding Program for Laboratory Medicine physicians and remunerated accordingly. You will receive a monthly payment of $34,897.83. The Physician is responsible for their benefits, professional dues, and income tax deductions. Thirty (30) workdays of absence are allotted per annum, in addition to statutory holidays. Remuneration may also be paid to a professional corporation at the request of the physician.

On call remuneration is fee for service and in addition to the amount listed above.

Qualifications:

·        The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine requires certification or fellowship in Anatomical Pathology or General Pathology of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or eligibility to write the examination for Fellowship in Pathology, or membership of the Royal College of Pathologists (England and Ireland), or certification of the American Board of Pathology, or certification by the Collège des médecins du Québec.

·        Must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick. https://www.cpsnb.org/             

·        A special interest in GI would be an asset.

Incentives:

$50,000.00 accompanied by a 2 year return of service. 

Relocation reimbursement of up to $8,000.
