Position Description:

Horizon Health Network is seeking a full-time salaried Family Physician to join our collaborative practice at Harvey Health Center. You would be joining a great team that consist of a nurse practitioner, experienced registered nurses, licensed practical nurses who works in collaboration with allied health professionals— x-ray services, physiotherapy services, social work, licensed counselling therapist, dietetics, diabetic educator, community developer, and administrative support. All working in collaboration to ensure that patients receive primary care from the most appropriate provider while ensuring all providers have a good work life balance.  Co-located in the building a Family Medicine practice that consist of two physicians.

As a primary care family physician, you will work within the interdisciplinary team to provide family centered primary care that emphasizes health promotion, disease and injury prevention, chronic disease management and patient education. The physician is responsible for providing primary care functions to patients across the lifespan and support for the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of programs and services for individuals, families, and community.

Family physicians establishing a full-time community-based primary care practice in the Greater Fredericton region provide comprehensive family medicine services to patients

with the Department of Family Practice at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital.

Job Duties:

·        Perform clinical duties including but not restricted to seeing and assessing both scheduled and unscheduled patients for routine health and illness care, prescribing treatment, consults, referral to other healthcare professionals as required and appropriate follow-up to patients across the lifespan.

·        Providing inpatient care including daily rounds on patients or weekly rounds if working in a hospitalist call group model is optional.

·        Provide family-centered primary care by considering risk factors (environmental, social, psychological, and medical) in a manner which can be understood by the patient, and when applicable, his/her family.

·        Participate in the use of departmental and corporate evidence-based rules of practice to ensure that expected standards of care are achieved.

·        Participate in medical practice that is compatible with the Health Authority’s mission, values, and strategic directions.

·        Participate in the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of treatment, education, counseling and health promotion programs, disease and injury prevention and chronic disease management programs and services for individuals, families, and the community.

• Participate, by consensus of medical staff and in coordination with the clinic manager, in teaching and supervision of medical students and residents.

·        Participate in teaching, mentoring, and providing a resource to Nurse Practitioners, students, and other health care professionals.

·        Participate in after hours on-call coverage in coordination with other medical staff ensuring provisions are made for continual coverage of patient caseload during times when you are absent from your practice.

·        Participate in Medical Staff and Hospital Committees as required.

·        Other professional medical work falling within the scope of practice that may arise by circumstance may be assigned by the Vice President-Medical Affairs, Chief of Staff or Head of Family Practice in conversation with the Physician.

Note: These responsibilities are the basic and prime duties associated with this position; other related and allied duties may be assigned from time to time as may be necessary to the operation of Horizon Health

Hours of Work:

Monday to Friday (variable). Some weekend, holiday, or after-hours responsibilities for call duty. 

Remuneration:

Fee for Service

Standard remuneration is Fee-for-Service which is a direct compensation between the physician and Medicare of New Brunswick. On call remuneration is provided. No source deductions can be provided.

Qualifications:

·        Must hold a valid license to practice medicine in the Province of New Brunswick

·        Must be a member in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick.

·        Must have current malpractice insurance from the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) appropriate to the category of practice.

·        CCFP certification preferred.

·        Certified in BCLS (Basic cardiac life support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Sup)ort(, preferred.

·        Excellent communication, interpersonal and team-building skills.

·        Good attendance and work record.

·        Physically able to perform assign duties.

Expected Start Date:

As soon as possible

Incentives:

$100,000.00 accompanied by a 4 year return of service.

Relocation reimbursement of up to $8,000.

Other Requirements:

·        Attend appropriate CPD events as required to maintain membership in the CFPC or equivalent to those requirements.

·        Participate in physician meetings and education sessions, and appropriate team meetings.

·        Comply with the policies and procedures of the Department of Family Practice

·        Comply with the provisions of the Hospital Act, the Regional Health Authorities Act, Medical Services Payment Act and their regulations.

·        Comply with the Health Authority bylaws, rules and regulations and policies and procedures.

·        Follow the Code of Ethics of College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick

·        Must be able to provide services in both official languages, including chart documentation in English. 

About the Facility:

The Harvey Health Centre is focused on the health and wellness of all residents in the area and offers primary care and out-patient services.

The health care team includes registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, a nurse practitioner, diabetes educator and dietitian. There is co-located X-ray and physiotherapy, by appointment, in addition to access to diagnostic tests, including lab work and electrocardiograms.

We also offer ambulatory blood pressure and Holter monitoring. A variety of programs is offered in the centre including pulmonary rehabilitation, healthy aging assessment, and foot care, as well as group and individual education on a variety of topics.

Private physician offices are on site as well as the community outreach program which helps community residents with home care services.

Area south of the capital city of Fredericton consisting of Queens County and the southern portion of Sunbury and York Counties.

Harvey Rural Community is located approximately 35 minutes from Fredericton, NB to provide access to the facilities of bigger centres with the comfort of country living.
